What makes our communities livable?

Come participate in an immersive journey from the edge of the solar system to the Appalachian mountains, visualizing the extraordinary conditions that support the quality of life in the southern Appalachian bioregion and western North Carolina.

By exploring the interconnections between natural, economic, human, and built environments, we’ll examine innovative strategies for improving the health, sustainability, and resilience of the communities we call home.

The Livable Communties Initiative is a 3-year project to develop regional and local strategies for sustainable development, economic prosperity, and quality growth in Western North Carolina.
